VBS Kick Off Events

An exciting way to get the word out about your VBS this year is to have a kick- off event! This should be an easy, fun-filled time to excite those pre-registered for VBS, encourage additional families to register and to help the kids become familiar with each other and the VBS leaders. All of this will help make a smooth first day at your program. It is a great time for outreach as well. Leaders can give parents information on what the VBS progam entails.

  • Hold this event right at your church or find a neutral site to encourage families not affiliated with your church or any church to attend! It’s best to hold it a week or more before your VBS program begins.

  • Get the word out! Local church bulletins, local papers, your church sign, banners, and television coverage are good ideas. A multi-media approach is key.
  • Before the event, decorate a bit to create a buzz about the theme! Guildcraft Arts & Crafts has themed backdrops and table decorations and more to make decorating simple!

COLOR YOUR OWN BANNER

  • During the event, offer a few activities such as games and crafts to engage children. Make it simple- one game from the curriculum      and one craft. Guildcraft Arts & Crafts has easy craft kits to order that coordinate with your VBS curriculum and theme. It’s special for those attending to have a craft that they can take home that day.

    GOD IS GOOD BRACELETS
  • You can have your VBS CD playing during the activities and if you have time, teach the theme song.

  • I love the idea of having a cookout or some type of meal. This gives you an opportunity to feed someone who may not be able to afford three meals a day. A great opportunity for outreach! If a cookout or meal does not work with you, please offer some healthy snacks. Although many people LOVE an ice cream social too!
  • Recruit congregation members other than your VBS leaders to run this event. This keeps those heavily involved in VBS from feeling too overwhelmed. Those leaders should be there to interact. It would be a great time to enlist the aid of the teens at your church to help. Don’t forget your Pastor and Youth Pastors. Your congregation will embrace the opportunity to help and it will be a memorable day for all!

PRAYING HANDS NOTEHOLDERS

Lastly, lift up your good works in prayer, God will see you through! Good Luck with your Kick Off and your VBS program. Can’t wait to hear all about it!
